Do Stuffed Animals Have Souls?

Do stuffed animals have souls? Think about it. Who among us has looked lovingly into the black, button eye of a beloved teddy bear and not wondered if it might be so?

I can’t throw stuffed animals away because it feels like…..murder. I did it once, a long time ago. I was a different person then – you wouldn’t even recognize me as I am today. All I can say is that I was in a crazy place in my life. When I am some day standing up for the Final Judgment, and they are reciting the long list of my thoughtless transgressions, I know that throwing away a helpless, harmless teddy bear is going to come up. It haunts me even now.

The other day I was driving along a fairly busy street and there - in the gutter near an intersection - was a small stuffed… I don’t know what… but his tiny body was all twisted upside down and his little happy face was smiling at me, despite his unfortunate circumstances. They never give up on us! Why do we give up on them?

Oh sure, I understand – the mere subject opens up so many debates that it boggles the mind: should stuffed animals be allowed to roam freely within your house? Is it okay to box them up? What about the ones – like the cheap hot pink snakes and the crudely sewn carnival pandas – that should never have been “created” at all? Do we treat them as lesser beings? I could go on for hours, but I want to be able to sleep tonight.

  1. Love this--especially the question of the hot pink snakes and carnival pandas.

I have always got this eerie feeling that the stuffed animals that live with us have been made somewhat "alive" with our spirits. They always look like they know things about us. Are tuned into us. Would we love them as much if they looked merely stuffed?

Why they make those resemblances with animal units but softer and not if claws? Of not understanding. Again.

  3. Honestly, I always tended to believe that as soon as I gave a stuffed animal a name that's when it would begin to have a soul, it would grow depending on how I treated. But that's just me.

  4. I have had my stuffed animal for almost four years and it seems that now when I even touch her she gets warm quicker than she did when I first got her

    1. Right, I feel the same. When I first got my stuffed animal in 2016 I was given it by my mother for Christmas, I never felt the bond or anything. But I've had it on my bed always.. and as I moved into my other house I grew a strong bond with it due to loneliness. And since then.. I named him 'Cupcake'.

  6. It only makes ultimate sense! We are eternal beings living inside miraculous bodies created by God. Each one of us humans are living miracles, part of God. It is we who create these darling, lovable stuffies, stitching them together with loving care in genius craftsmanship. It is simply the transference of supreme energy from one soulful entity to another. We can thank God for ourselves, our animals and our stuffed animals! We all exist in a phenomenal world, and we are all connected! Our love for each other runs deeply, and our little stuffies only prove it even more with their thankful feelings!
